An auto repair shop website, rebuilt

Every problem on this page came from real small-business sites we audited in October 2026. We anonymized them and recreated them under a fictional name.

The business

Basalt Ridge is a four-bay independent shop. The owner did twelve years at a dealer before opening his own place, and most of his work comes from word of mouth.

People pick a mechanic on two things: can I trust you, and can you get my car in this week. Most of them look on their lunch break, when they can't make a call.

The old site was built like a dealer brochure: stock photos of cars, a news feed whose newest post was from 2020, and "call for a quote" in place of a single price. The number in one block was a placeholder that rang nowhere. Nothing let a customer ask for a time without calling.

How we work

  1. Audit. We load the site on a real phone profile, time it, check every number and link, and read the Google listing and reviews.
  2. Plan. One page that answers the top three customer questions before they scroll. Everything else is one tap away.
  3. Write. We write the copy. You fix what's wrong and approve it.
  4. Build and launch. Plain, fast pages on your own domain. Then we update your Google listing to match.

Each fix, and why

  1. Prices for the common jobs. "Call for a quote" on everything reads as "we'll see what we can get." Three posted prices change that. Seen on 9 sites we audited.
  2. Request-a-time form on the home page. There was no way to reach the shop except by phone. A three-field form catches the lunch-break crowd, and the shop confirms by text. Seen on 5 sites we audited.
  3. One real phone number, tested. A template placeholder number was still linked on the page. We test every number and link before launch. Seen on 1 site we audited.
  4. Old posts off the front page. A news feed topped out at 2020 and the copyright at 2021. Dated content on the home page makes a shop look closed. Seen on 2 sites we audited.
  5. Call link and hours in the first screen. The phone link sat below the fold on mobile, and on another site the hours weren't on the home page at all. Seen on 2 sites we audited.
  6. Real photos instead of stock. Stock engines and a generic battery photo were the only images. The layout now has three labeled spots for the shop's own bays and techs. Seen on 2 sites we audited.
  7. Fast on a phone. Big hero images held the first paint to 9–13 seconds. The new page paints in under one. Seen on 3 sites we audited.
  8. Shop details Google can read. Hours, phone and address go into LocalBusiness markup so search and AI tools get them right. Seen on 8 sites we audited.
