Whetwheel Ask about your business

Websites and Google listings for Washington shops and trades.

The work is good. Make sure people can reach you. Most of the shops and trades we look at have great reviews and steady customers. What costs them work is smaller: a call that rings out while hands are busy, a website link that goes nowhere, a Google listing with old hours. We fix those things for a fixed price.

Where jobs slip away

Missed calls
When you’re under a car or on a roof, the phone goes to voicemail. Many callers don’t leave one; they call the next name on the list. A text right away (“Sorry we missed you, what do you need?”) keeps the conversation going.
Customers can’t find you
Wrong hours, a missing category, or no photos on your Google listing means fewer calls from people searching nearby. That listing is often seen more than your website.
Broken links
A website button that leads to an error page, an expired domain, or a free “wixsite” address makes a solid business look closed or careless.

Does it pay for itself?

We use the low end of the numbers we could find, not the best case.

Auto shop, missed-call text-back. Say you miss 40 calls a month and your average job is about $350. If texting back wins back only 1 in 10 of those callers (the weaker results reported across 60 contractor accounts), that’s 4 jobs, about $1,400 a month, against $59. One recovered job covers about six months.

Plumber, same idea. At around $450 a job, one recovered call pays for more than seven months of text-back. Two cover a $750 website.

Salon or barber, appointment reminders. A review of 21 studies found text reminders cut no-shows from about 21% to 15%. At 300 appointments a month and $35 a visit, that’s roughly $260 a month kept.

Google listing cleanup. Published case studies report 33% to 150% more calls after fixing an incomplete listing. Results vary a lot; if a $150 fix brings in a single extra job a year, it has paid off.

Sources: missed-call recovery, gorapidlocal.com (60 contractor accounts, 2026, bottom quartile 10–12%); reminders, BMJ Open 2016 meta-analysis; listing case studies, softonrank.com and govindmarketingexpert.com. Vendor-reported figures are marketing numbers, which is why we use the low end. Your numbers will be different.
